Abstract

Transgenic foods, obtained through genetic engineering, have revolutionized agriculture and the food industry. This article reviews the concept of what they are, what they are used for, risks and benefits with the intention of explaining to the reader, specifically, to teachers in the area of ​​science that scientific literacy can be promoted in students by using the technology as a link that connects science and society from the issue of genetically modified foods. The idea is to develop the ability to form your own judgment and, therefore, make decisions about its use. The approach establishes the relationship between science, technology and society in which scientific and technological concepts; In this case, transgenic foods acquire meaning by interacting with their applications in society through the area of ​​science. The production of genetically modified foods on the one hand carries a position that it provides advantages in life.
